Your favorite broken item deserves a second chance — join us this Saturday for Repair Cafe Santa Barbara
|
|
|
Keep useful items out of the landfill and learn new repair skills in the process.
|
|
|
Before you recycle or throw something away, let’s see if it can be repaired! Join us Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CEC’s Environmental Hub (1219 State St.) for Repair Cafe Santa Barbara, where skilled volunteer fixers will help you troubleshoot and repair everyday items.
Bring up to two items to fix — whether it’s clothing, electronics, bicycles, furniture, toys, or small appliances. You’ll work side by side with volunteers, learn practical repair skills, and help keep valuable items in use instead of creating unnecessary waste.
This is an opportunity to learn something new, connect with your community, and discover how repairing what we already have can make a meaningful difference for the planet. While you wait, enjoy live music, light refreshments, and conversation with fellow community members who share a commitment to sustainability.
Repair Cafe goes beyond fixing broken items — it also helps us build a more resourceful Central Coast. As part of our A Year of Active Hope series, this free event celebrates the power of community action. We hope to see you on Saturday!

Become a Resilience Hub and Help Your Community Prepare for Disasters
The California Central Coast faces growing challenges from extreme heat, wildfire smoke, flooding, and poor air quality. Community resilience hubs—trusted local spaces like schools, libraries, community centers, and churches—can provide aid and resources before, during, and after these events. CEC can help activate your site to:
-
Provide clean air during smoke events
-
Act as cooling locations during extreme heat
-
Distribute food
-
Serve as an emergency shelter or hub for emergency services
-
Facilitate disaster preparedness training and neighborhood organizing
-
Host off-grid charging during power outages or shutdowns
