| The Port of Hueneme has begun construction activities associated with the former Navy Civil Engineering Laboratory (NCEL) site near the beachfront promenade. Work will take place between the hours of 7a – 9p Mon. – Fri. with completion expected by October 15, 2026.
This project includes demolition of 7 NCEL buildings and preparation of the site for future cargo operations and infrastructure improvements.
Community members may notice increased construction activity, including periodic noise and dust during demolition and paving operations. Environmental Best Management Practices are being implemented throughout the project to minimize dust, debris, stormwater runoff, and other potential impacts.
The Port recognizes the importance of the promenade as a valued community space and appreciates the public’s patience during this temporary construction period as we work to improve infrastructure that supports global and regional trade, jobs, and economic vitality.
The Port is also coordinating with local rescue partners to safely relocate cats from the project area during construction.
We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as this work moves forward.
