VENTURA — The City of Ventura’s Finance Department has been recognized for excellence in budgeting and financial reporting, earning awards from both state and national professional organizations.
For the 12th consecutive year, the City of Ventura earned budget awards from both the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) and the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). CSMFO presented the Operating Budget Meritorious Award for Fiscal Year 2025–2026, and GFOA honored the City with its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the organization’s highest recognition.
These awards recognize local government agencies for preparing budget documents that are clear, transparent, and comprehensive. Budgets are evaluated using rigorous criteria that assess organization, accuracy, financial disclosure, policy discussion, and the presentation of revenues, expenditures, fund balances, and long-term financial planning.
In addition to the budget award recognitions, the City of Ventura also received national honors for its financial reporting this past December.
For the 24th consecutive year, the GFOA presented the City with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended on June 30, 2024
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Reports are judged by an impartial panel and must demonstrate a constructive spirit of full disclosure, clearly communicating the government’s financial story to residents, stakeholders, and decision-makers.
“These awards are a testament to the hard work and integrity of our Finance team,” said City Manager Bill Ayub. “Under Chief Financial Officer Greg Morley’s leadership, the department continues to uphold the highest standards of fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability on behalf of our community.”
