LULAC urges community to attend college board meeting on Dec. 13

The League of United Latin American Citizens — Ventura County District 17 is urging LULAC members, Hispanic community leaders and other community members to attend the Ventura Community College District board meeting to support VCCCD Trustee Art Hernandez.

LULAC Trustee Art Hernandez needs full community support. In an article published in the Ventura County Star yesterday, Chancellor James Meznec and others made statements that seem to indirectly crticize Mr. Hernandez for advocating on behalf of Oxnard College,” LULAC stated in a media release. “The issue of accreditation has been raised in order to prevent our elected leaders from advocating for Oxnard College.”

“In addition, LULAC is concered that some on the board may vote to deny Trustee Hernandez the opportunity to chair the district board next year,” LULAC reported. ” The chair rotates among members each year.”

The district is scheduled to elect new officers when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Ventura Unified School District Multi-Purpose Room 255, 255 W. Stanley Ave., Ventura.
