Saving Lives Each And Every Day

I am thrilled to announce that the Camarillo Animal Shelter has completely opened to those wishing to walk around and adopt shelter animals! It feels great seeing so many people at our facility, looking for their next family member. Adoption hours are Tuesday – Sunday from 1:00pm – 6:00pm and we encourage everyone to preview our pets online and learn about our adoption process prior to your visit. We are equally happy to report that the Simi Valley Animal Shelter is open for the drop off of stray animals and for the reclaim of owned animals Tuesday – Sunday from 12:00pm – 5:00pm. Pet adoptions will soon return to this location.

Our staff and volunteers are here to answer questions and help make the best matches possible! Thank you for your patience and support during the past 18 months!

Injured Cat Steals Hearts of VCAS Veterinary Team!

Leopold came to our facility with severe facial trauma including a fractured jaw, making it impossible for him to eat. Our Veterinary Team placed a feeding tube, and although it was uncomfortable, he did not show it. In fact, during every feeding he would adoringly roll around in the laps of our Registered Veterinary Technicians and would chirp and coo over the attention he received!

Leopold fully healed and the feeding tube was removed. He became well enough to go up for adoption where he QUICKLY chirped his way into someone’s heart. Yes, Leopold was adopted! We will miss this sweet boy, but we are beyond happy he has a home to call his own!

ABUSE / NEGLECT INVESTIGATION

LOCKWOOD VALLEY, CA: VCAS executed a search warrant on a property located in Lockwood Valley. This was done incollaboration with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the Ojai Humane Society. Upon entry to the property, it was discovered that several animals were living in unsanitary conditions. Several deceased animals were also found on the property.

All animals were seized to protect their health due to the condition in which they were residing. The case was sent to the Ventura County District Attorney’s office.

BUNNY ADOPTIONS IN FULL SWING!

The VCAS Bunny Brigade is ramping up adoption efforts with the goal of finding a safe and loving indoor home for every adoptable rabbit by summer’s end. Most of our rabbits arrived following Easter, as we see every spring. One extremely fun and silly boy, however, has patiently waited over two years for a family of his own! Tahoe is in foster care with an incredible Bunny Brigade volunteer, Sam. Our best chance of getting Tahoe adopted is to transition him directly from foster care to his new home. RESCUE READERS ARE BACK!

READ TO SHELTER ANIMALS: Kids ages 4-14 come to the Camarillo Animal Shelter from 3:00pm – 4:00pm on Sundays to read to shelter animals. Tap/click here to learn more about the program. Dr. Eline Britz

My name is Eline Britz and I have been a Veterinarian at Ventura County Animal Services since January 2019. I graduated from UC Davis in 2010 and have worked with a variety of animal species in various settings. I have a master’s degree in Epidemiology and enjoy looking at the “big picture” of population health. I’m originally from South Africa and my family is spread throughout the world. Outside of work I love to swim in the ocean, surf, train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and just hang out with friends and eat.
