We have all heard about the Presidential election of November 2012. We also survived the June primary elections to decide the candidates who will face off for county, state and federal positions. Yet, local elections are not only important to our way of lives, but still up for interested candidates.
The opening time to declare for a position in the November 2012 elections will start on July 16. If the incumbents decide to run for reelection, this window to apply will end on August 10.
If at least one incumbent does not file for office, the window to declare will extend to August 15 for all non-incumbents.
School boards, city councils, city administrations, and special boards all have certain obligations that influence the standard of living in any of our communities. All are important.
All positions require that a candidate be a resident of the area or district, a U.S. citizen and to be over the age of 18.
Not required are any education degree, language fluency or past political experience.
Being on a ballot does not mean that the candidate will win, but from the list of candidates the voters decide who will be their representative.
If you or someone you know may be interested, please look below at the local elections from Ventura County that will be on the upcoming election. Interested persons should contact the Election’s Office in the basement of the Ventura County Government Center, Hall of Administration, Main Plaza 800 So. Victoria Ave., Ventura.
In many cases, the city hall administrative offices or school district offices can also answer questions and even assist in the application to run for office.
Once the person has filed the papers to run for office, the election campaign can take many forms, but again the voters are the final decider for who they elect to hold as a representative.
Public service is a very hard, very rewarding job that often is unappreciated by many and ridiculed by some. Yet, representing a community can bring change and a future to many.
