Bilingual report — 2025: A Year in Review from People’s Self-Help Housing

Friend,
As we reflect on the past year, we’ve compiled some of the top stories that highlight what we were able to accomplish together. These stories were made possible by strong partnerships and visionary investments from people like you. Thank you for your advocacy, goodwill, and generous support every step of the way!
This year marked People’s Self-Help Housing’s 55th Anniversary! From our origins in 1970, on the heels of the seminal Fair Housing Act, through today, we have been proud to serve the community and bring thousands of units of affordable housing and comprehensive supportive housing services to the Central Coast.
In January we celebrated ten dedicated families turned homeowners at Summer Holly Lane in Nipomo. After beginning construction in August 2023, these owner-builders committed more than 40 hours per week to building their homes – learning new skills, supporting one another, and investing sweat equity in the investment of a lifetime. A joyful neighborhood block party marked the moment as the new homeowners received keys to their homes!
In August, we congratulated four talented Camino Scholars students who were awarded the 2025 John Fowler Scholarship! Alondra, Fatima, Gabii, and Luna (not pictured) left in the fall to pursue degrees in higher education.?

Since 2020, this scholarship, provided in honor of former PSHH CEO & President, supports students financially as they pursue college, vocational, or trade schools.

We broke ground on College Community Courts in Ventura – a project four years in the making, made possible through a partnership with the College Ministry Center of the United Methodist Church. The property brings 57 new affordable apartments for households earning up to 60% of the Area Median Income, including homes reserved for farmworker households, unhoused individuals, and domestic violence survivors. The community is expected to welcome its first residents in 2027.
Supportive housing changes lives by providing stability, opportunity, and care when it’s needed most. The stories of our residents reflect this impact:

  • A senior with no prior income or work experience found new purpose and became an In-Home Caregiver, gaining confidence and financial independence.
  • A single mother facing unexpected surgery worried about providing for her children during recovery. She received funds to ensure her children had food and her basic needs met while healing.
Thanks to you, there were many other notable milestones throughout 2025. Take a look at our Impact Report to see more ways your support can change lives or make a generous year-end gift to help meet emerging needs.
