OPENING RECEPTION:

1ST THURSDAY, JULY 2ND | FROM 5-8 PM

SANTA BARBARA, CA – Returning to Sullivan Goss after a three year hiatus, the gallery is excited to announce the tenth solo exhibition for artist NICOLE STRASBURG.

The paintings presented here are the latest expression of an artistic practice that has been developing for more than forty years. While the work explores new visual territory, it remains deeply connected to the foundation Nicole has built throughout her career. The themes, observations, and techniques that have defined her work continue to nourish these new paintings, allowing them to reach further, branch wider, and bloom in unexpected ways.

This exhibition also offers a rare opportunity to view a selection of Nicole’s sketchbooks, providing insight into her creative process from initial observation to finished oil painting. Gallery visitors can trace the development of an idea, seeing what transforms and what remains constant along the way. Sketchbooks are a vulnerable place where ideas and notions are still being worked out, so it’s always an honor to be invited in to witness the process.

The Whole Is Greater is a meditation on the power of accumulation. Individual marks, fragments, observations, and moments may seem small on their own, but together they create something larger and more meaningful. As in nature, every new growth contains the history of what came before it, reminding us that the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts.

Nicole Strasburg will be present at the 1st Thursday reception on July 2nd. Come meet the artist and celebrate this new body of work. A catalog will accompany the exhibition and be available for purchase at the gallery.
