Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County launches “100 Big Brothers” volunteer recruitment campaign with the California Men’s Service Challenge

VENTURA — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC) is launching a new local mentorship recruitment campaign aligned with the California Men’s Service Challenge, a bold statewide initiative from the Governor’s Office that calls on young men to become volunteer mentors and leaders in their communities.

To uplift this challenge, BBSVC has set an ambitious local goal: match 100 Little Brothers with Big Brothers in 2026. By becoming mentors to youth, volunteers gain real-world experience, build meaningful relationships, and develop a deeper sense of purpose – while making a lasting, positive impact on the lives of local youth.

“This campaign is about uplifting young men in Ventura County by connecting them with a Big who represents a healthy, connected village of support,” said Danica Selvaggio, CEO at BBSVC. “Through mentorship, we create safe spaces for Little Brothers to build confidence, develop healthy relationships, and receive the consistent encouragement that helps them discover their potential. Our 100 new volunteers will help shape a brighter future for the next generation.”

As part of the effort to find volunteers, BBSVC is partnering with local businesses to serve as “recruitment hubs” throughout Ventura County. Participating partners – including Hygiena, Cal Lutheran University, Ventura County Credit Union, Pacific View Mall, Lucky Dog Coffee, Arsenal Comics, and others – will host sign-up stations where prospective Big Brothers can learn more and get involved. Information will be available both in-person and online throughout the month of January.

With more boys waiting for a mentor in Ventura County, the need for caring, consistent male role models continues to rise. Through the “100 Big Brothers” campaign, BBSVC invites men from all walks of life to step forward and show that meaningful change begins with showing up. Together, Ventura County can ensure that young people grow up feeling supported, connected, and inspired to thrive.
