More Ways to Give with VCCF: Stock Donations

VENTURA COUNTY — As we enter the season of giving, there’s a wonderful way to make your generosity go even further: donating appreciated stock to the Ventura County Community Foundation.

Gifting stock is not only a powerful way to support the causes you care about, it may also offer meaningful tax advantages. By donating appreciated securities, you may be able to avoid capital-gains tax and receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of your gift. It’s a true win-win for you and for our Ventura County community.

Why now is a smart time: Since HR. 1, which passed this summer, implements a minimum charitable contribution rate for taxpayers who itemize their deductions starting in 2026, some donors may wish to accelerate their giving in the 2025 tax year before the new tax law goes into effect.

By acting in 2025, while the older, more favorable rules remain fully in effect, you potentially lock in greater tax-benefits for your gift of stock.

Many VCCF donors contribute their stock into their established VCCF Donor Advised Funds, Scholarship Funds, or Designated Funds for Specific Nonprofits, while others send stock through VCCF and grant directly to local organizations and causes. Whatever your preference, we are here to support you every step of the way.

Important Note: Please let us know ahead of time if you plan to send stock. Brokerage firms often omit donor information, and a quick email to Kate Jackson at kjackson@vccf.o?rg ensures we can process your gift promptly and accurately. Letting us know in advance ensures your gift is received, acknowledged, and put to work supporting the Ventura County community.

Ready to give stock? Download the form using the button above, complete your donation details, and send it to kjackson@vccf.o?rg before initiating your transfer. While VCCF does not offer tax advice, we are always happy to provide information you can share with your tax professional. Please feel free to reach out anytime.

Together, let’s make this giving season one that grows.
