SAN LUIS OBISPO — More than 70 California Conservation Corpsmembers and San Luis Obispo residents received free eye exams and, if needed, free prescription glasses on Nov. 6-7 thanks to a partnership between VSP Eyes of Hope and the California Conservation Corps. Many of the prescription glasses were made the same day on board the mobile clinic, allowing patients to receive eye care and eyewear in the same visit.
Seeing clearly is important for your career, school, and overall quality of life. Yet many of our community members don’t have access to vision care,” said Mike Anderson, Los Padres District Director of the California Conservation Corps. “Thanks to VSP Eyes of Hope, we met Corpsmembers and our broader community where they’re at by providing free eye exams and prescription glasses in a way that was accessible and convenient.”
“Annual eye exams are so much more than checking for clear vision—they’re key components to a person’s overall health and wellbeing and can help detect signs of serious health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and more” said Dr. Rupert Chowins, a volunteer eye doctor with VSP Eyes of Hope. “I’ve been working with VSP Eyes of Hope for years and am proud to help provide my local community with the gift of sight.”
This event was part of VSP Eyes of Hope tour through California, which will provide approximately 800 Californians with free eye exams and prescription glasses this fall.
