VENTURA — This July, the City of Ventura proudly joins communities across the country in celebrating the 40th anniversary of National Park and Recreation Month. This year’s theme, “Build Together, Play Together,” shines a spotlight on the vital role that local parks, open spaces, and recreational programs play in creating a strong, healthy, and connected community.
To kick off the celebration, the Ventura City Council presented a proclamation during its July 1 meeting. Throughout the month, the City’s Parks & Recreation Department will share stories on social media highlighting the people, places, and programs that make Ventura a dynamic place to live, work, and play. Follow along and join the celebration on Facebook at www.facebook.com/VenturaParksAndRecreation
“Parks and recreation services are essential to the quality of life in our community, and many others across the country,” said Mayor Dr. Jeannette Sanchez-Palacios. “They promote wellness and provide safe spaces and programs for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect. I’m grateful for the incredible staff and volunteers who help make these spaces feel like home for so many.”
Park and Recreation Month is a national initiative led by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), encouraging communities to reflect on the power of parks to promote health, equity, conservation, and community well-being.
