From antiquities to contemporary works inspired by today’s headlines, November Art Beat features diverse cultural offerings along with entertainment in local galleries & nightspots.
Art Beat 2nd Saturdays, Downtown Oxnard’s monthly showcase of art, dining and entertainment will feature more than ten art shows within a walkable loop in the City’s cultural and hospitality center starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, the Oxnard Downtown Management District reported in a media release.
The Carnegie will extend hours through 8 p.m. for a special presentation of “Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo – Silk Thangka in the Tibetan Tradition.” This is a very rare chance to see an artist, whose work has been blessed by the Dalai Lama, carrying on an ancient Tibetan Tradition of drawing with embroidery.
Around the corner, the Alert on B guerilla gallery at 405 So. B Street, will present “Addiction to Art” a collaboration of Jenchi Wu, noted sculptor, ceramicist, and teacher, with her fellow Ventura College instructors and their students. This collection will challenge your expectations and preconceptions of ceramics.
Just east of the Civic Center and Public Library, Arts 4 Action celebrates the opening of its new studio at 228 So. A Street with a stimulating show titled “America 4 Auction.” The visual and spoken word show raises consciousness of the “occupy Wall Street” movement. The evening will also feature music and a raffle with proceeds going to the non-profit youth organization.
Other Art Beat highlights include: the photographic works of Jim Englund inside Fresh & Fabulous Café & Bakery, also celebrating 5 years in business; a spoken word and visual arts exhibit at the Café on A; McMullen’s Japanese Antiques Kimono show and lecture at 8 p.m.; and open studio at Downtown Center for the Arts.
