January News from People’s Self-Help Housing

Residents celebrating the holidays at Casas de las Flores, Carpinteria.
Dear Friend,
The Day of Service this month, dedicated to volunteering in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, is especially germane for us to acknowledge and celebrate here at People’s Self-Help Housing. Daily, our organization and residents benefit from the numerous and compassionate efforts from volunteers throughout the Central Coast. They include those who serve alongside us at our learning centers, at events, support us in public settings, and serve to guide our governance.
You continually inspire and encourage us in your volunteerism, and that same spirit in turn runs through the personal lives of many of our employees. Team members volunteer on other nonprofits boards, support youth groups, and participant in community events. They serve on city councils, planning commissions, local service clubs, as well as in their places of worship. All of our collective service, especially evident through the pandemic, has strengthened the bonds between us and enhanced our care for each other. In that spirit of service, let’s continue in 2022 to find new ways of strengthening the less powerful, of building more bridges across disparity, and moving us all closer to Dr. King’s “Beloved Community”. A place where absent from poverty, hunger, and hate, we are cared for, in good health, and all are safely housed.

Thank you all for your service!

Ken Trigueiro, CEO & President

Year End Appeal Exceeds Goal
Thank you to all those near and far for your continued, generous support of People’s Self-Help Housing! By helping provide safe, affordable housing enriched with site-based services, your donations help ensure that residents have access to the resources they need to stay resilient. We couldn’t do it without you – let’s keep Building Together!
A Phil Farewell: Retiring after 25 Years
After a quarter of a century as a dedicated team member of People’s Self-Help Housing, Phil McClintock, former Home Ownership Construction Site Superintendent, has officially begun retirement. We and our owner-builders are so thankful for all of Phil’s hard work. Hear Phil’s thoughts on his time at PSHH, as he embarks on his next adventure!
Employers Benefit from Safely-Housed Employees
A recent PSHH survey showed that our residents work at over 1,000 different places of employment. Knowing how much safe and stable housing contributes to health and wellbeing, we believe that this support of our regional workforce is greatly benefiting to our local economies. With many of those employers in the agricultural sector, we are proud to be supporting those vital workers who ensure a safe and healthy food supply for all. If you know a current or retired farmworker in need of housing, have them apply to La Brisa Marina in Oceano and Guadalupe Court in Guadalupe.
Leaving Your Legacy
Immense gratitude to all our Legacy Circle members for making us part of their planned giving. If you too would like to discuss how you can leave a lasting legacy to benefit the programs and services of PSHH, please call Gillian at (805) 548-2340 or email giving@pshhc.org.See how longtime donor Sharon Turner is creating a legacy through her planned gift to PSHH:
