In cooperation to provide internship and talent opportunities.   Late last fall, we launched an exciting new cooperation with Amgen’s Finance division. With the strong support of Amgen CFO David Meline(ret. 2020) and Adjunct Instructor Kyle McIntosh of Amgen, we defined a structured program that provides an opportunity for some of our most gifted students to gain deep experience in a very advanced environment and at the same time, presents a great way for Amgen to get early access to top talent. We are pleased to report that we have placed the first two students in this program – Melissa Wasylewski, an accounting major, and Brandon McClenning, a business administration major with an emphasis in IT Management. Ran Lu-Andrews(Program Director, UG Business Administration) and Patrick Manning (Program Director, UG Accounting) were instrumental in creating this partnership for our students.
Quick to add virtual event series.   In response to the coronavirus crisis we started a new “Forward Together” webinar series. Our first event focused on “Career Entry and Advancement in Times of Crisis” and featured a panel of experts from recruiting, retained search, and alumni who have experienced the job market during times of crisis including Nate Corte (alumnus, Amgen), Becky Bruno (Bruno Recruiting), Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire (Berkhemer Clayton), and Monica Tobin (Century Group). Our second event focused on “Covid-19 – Crisis Management & Recovery Scenarios: An example in the Multinational Beauty/Haircare Industry”, featuring Stefan L. Mund, (Henkel Beauty CareHair Professional North America), followed by “Design Thinking: Pre- and Post- COVID-19”, featuring Ravi Sawhney (RKS Design) and our most recent, “The Federal Legislative Response to COVID-19: Public Policies to Assist Frontline Health Care Providers”, featured Richard Mereu (Emergency Nurses Association). See webinar listing and view recordings here.
Academic excellence from our faculty members.   At the American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences (ASBBS) 27th Annual Conference, faculty member, Virginia Gean (shown in photo with the conference chair) was honored with the Academic Excellence As Educator and Author Award. The award was specifically based on Virginia’s research on leadership histories at University Village Thousand Oaks, which was published in the book “A Village of Knowledge”. We are proud of Virginia’s recognition!
BIG NEWS!   Once again, our Center for Economic Research and Forecasting (CERF) is making us shine. Matthew Fienup (Executive Director, CERF and Lecturer, Economics) and Dan Hamilton (Director of Economics, CERF and Director, MS in Quantitative Economics program) were just honored as a 2019 Zillow Home Price Expectations Crystal Ball Award Winner. Started originally by Yale Professor and Nobel Laureate Robert Shiller, the organization Pulsenomics surveys a distinguished panel of over 100 economists, investment strategists, and housing market analysts each quarter regarding their 5-year expectations for future home prices in the United States. Our team received this honor for their outstanding performance and consistency in this survey by having earned three top-five rankings last year.
Announcing our new Reagan-Gallegly Fellow.   We recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, the organization that also oversees the Ronald Reagan Library. The agreement allows us to rebrand and market an existing scholarship for our Master of Public Policy and Administration (MPPA) program as the “Reagan-Gallegly Fellowship” program. This makes our MPPA program the only graduate program in the nation to carry the name of the 40th president of the United States. This year’s new Reagan-Gallegly Fellowship full scholarship was awarded to Esmeralda Navarro, a 2020 Cal Lutheran Organizational Leadership undergraduate graduate and is currently an Operations Manager with the Ventura County Department of Child Support Services (VCDCSS). She brings 10 years of experience to her role and is a passionate public servant who believes thriving families are the foundation of vibrant and healthy communities. After completing her degree, she hopes to serve at a state or federal level, pursuing initiatives and legislation that will help engage both parents in their child’s life.
