CAMARILLO — This week, registration opens for theVentura County Fire Department’s second annual, Girls’ Fire Camp, hosted on Saturday, November 23 – Sunday, November 24, 2019, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ventura County Fire Regional Training Center at the Camarillo Airport.
Instructed by inspirational female firefighters from agencies across the west coast, the two-day youth education program is FREE and open to all genders, ages 14 – 18 years old.
“The VenturaGirls’ Fire Camp is a hands-on, youth empowerment program designed to share what it’s like to be a firefighter, especially for girls who may not know about options in this profession,” said Assistant Fire Chief Kelly White. “We want participants to feel inspired to push past limits, practice teamwork and gain the confidence they need to boldly and bravely pursue any career, including one in the fire service.”
During the two-day camp, youth will learn about fire behavior, firefighting tools and training, CPR, nutrition, physical fitness and interview techniques.
The program incorporates different firefighting training stations, including: rope operations, ladders, search and rescue, extrication, forcible entry, emergency medical skills and how to use hoses and nozzles.
