Forum on ‘California Crossroads Tour: Taking Back our Health and Communities’ to be held Jan. 14 in Oxnard

OXNARD – “When Governor Jerry Brown began his historic fourth term this month, he vowed to position California as a leader in the fight against climate change, in part by moving the state to 50 percent renewable energy by 2030. But, Brown’s vision is undermined by continued oil industry development in California, including fracking and other extreme extraction methods, wastewater injection into deep disposal wells, and the prospect of a dramatic increase of oil by rail,” according to organizers of the forum “California Crossroads Tour: Taking Back our Health and Communities” to be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 at the Heritage Cultural Center, 141 W. 5th St., No. 202 second floor, Oxnard.

Speakers include Oxnard Mayor Pro-Temp Carmen Ramirez; Moorpark City Councilmember David Pollock; Maricela Morales, deputy executive director of CAUSE (Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy; David Braun of CA Against Fracking; Madeline Stano, staff attorney, Center on Race, Poverty & the Environment and Jan Dietrick of Citizen’s Climate Lobby.

“Community leaders and expert speakers will inform Ventura County residents about how these dangerous oil industry practices affect our community. The forum is the third stop on the statewide ‘California Crossroads Tour,’ hosted in partnership with the Californians Against Fracking coalition to bring awareness to these issues and to increase pressure on Governor Brown to protect our water, our health, and our communities by ending fracking, standing up to Big Oil, and moving beyond fossil fuels to 100% renewable energy. The tour also promotes the February 7 March for Real Climate Leadership in Gov. Brown’s hometown, Oakland; forum attendees will learn how to sign up for bus travel from Ventura County to Oakland for the March.”

A $10 donation requested, but nobody will be turned away. Refreshments will be served beginning at 6:30.
