Social Justice Fund for Ventura County to present ‘Interpreting for Social Justice’ March 15-17

VENTURA — The Social Justice Fund for Ventura County will present ‘Interpreting for Social Justice’ March 15-17 in Ventura.

The program will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 15; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17 at the Ventura Unified School District Education Service Center, 255 W. Stanley Ave., Suite 100, Ventura.

The cost if $50, with full and partial scholarships available.

“This 2.5-day workshop is for experienced and aspiring interpreters who live or work in Ventura County who want to build their skills and explore how interpretation is connected to movements for social justice,” organizers reported in a media release. “Participants of all levels, languages, and ages are welcome.”

Roberto Tijerina, nationally recognized trainer in interpretation and language justice, will be the facilitator. He coordinated the Multilingual Capacity Building Program at Highlander Research and Education Center and has worked as an advocate for LGBT, immigrant, and disability rights. In addition to English, he is fluent in Spanish and American Sign Language, organizers reported.

Interpretation between Spanish and English will be provided. Registration is limited.
