VENTURA — The City of Ventura invites community members to learn about its proposed permanent Tree Protection Ordinance before it returns to the City Council for consideration on October 27, 2026. The proposed ordinance is intended to protect and enhance Ventura’s urban forest while establishing clear standards for tree preservation, removal, and replacement.
At two upcoming community meetings, City staff will explain which trees would be protected, when a permit would be required, what to expect from the permit process, and other proposed impacts. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and share input.
Community Meetings
Both meetings will be held at Ventura City Hall, 501 Poli Street, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.:
-
Monday, October 5, 2026 – Atrium
-
Tuesday, October 20, 2026 – Community Meeting Room
Virtual input opportunities are also available on the City’s website through October 18.
“Development of the permanent ordinance began following City Council direction in December 2025,” said Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Emily Fox. “The proposal has been informed by recommendations from the Tree Advisory Ad Hoc Committee, Parks and Recreation Commission, and Planning Commission, along with input from City departments, local arborists, community organizations, and stakeholders.”
The City Council adopted an Emergency Tree Ordinance in February 2026 to provide interim protection following unauthorized tree removal and trimming within a known monarch butterfly overwintering habitat area. Staff presented the proposed permanent ordinance to the City Council on July 7 and have since incorporated Council and community input.
Details including the proposed ordinance are available on the City’s website at www.cityofventura.ca.gov/TPO
