Help Shape Ventura County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan

Ventura County is inviting residents, businesses, and community organizations to help shape the County’s next Hazard Mitigation Plan by reviewing the draft plan at a public workshop on November 18, 2026.

This opportunity comes once every five years, and public workshops provide opportunities to share concerns about local hazards, identify what matters, and help guide future projects aimed at reducing disaster risks throughout Ventura County.

A special thanks to the Ventura County Schools Self-Funding Authority for providing the meeting space for this opportunity. Join us in person or online:

The County of Ventura Honors Veterans with Operation Green Light

From November 4–11, the County of Ventura will illuminate the Veterans Memorial at the Ventura County Government Center in green in honor of Operation Green Light for Veterans.

Led nationally by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, the initiative honors veterans’ service and sacrifice while raising awareness of the challenges they face and resources available to support them and their families.

The effort began in New York in 2021 through its state associations of counties and county veteran service officers.

To our veterans: You are seen, valued and supported.

5 Questions with Jim McHugh, the County of Ventura’s Veterans Services Officer

As we recognize Veterans Day this November, we’re taking a closer look at the County’s Veterans Services Office and the people it serves.

In this month’s 5 Questions With, Ventura County Veterans Services Officer Kim McHugh discusses commonly overlooked opportunities, support that extends beyond veterans themselves, and how his team helps people find a path forward.

Whether you recently left military service or have never explored the resources available, his insights offer a reason to take another look.

Each branch has its own theme, so pick the one that sparks your imagination:

Painters, photographers, illustrators, young artists, first-timers, longtime makers: all are welcome. Selected artists will be notified on Thursday, November 6.

SERVICE SPOTLIGHT – Spotlight on Public Work Agency’s Watershed Protection Division

Protecting communities starts with caring for the watersheds around them. With the possibility of a busy storm season ahead, Ventura County Public Works Agency’s Watershed Protection District team of professionals have been hard at work preparing flood protection facilities to help keep communities safe.

Crews have been removing sediment and debris from channels and debris basins to help stormwater flow safely. They also inspect and maintain pump stations and other flood protection facilities to prepare for heavy rain.

Established in 1944 as the Ventura County Flood Control District, the Watershed Protection District combines flood protection with environmentally sound watershed management. Its work helps safeguard lives, property, waterways, and public infrastructure throughout Ventura County.
