Friend,
As students across the Central Coast are now back to school, we’re reminded that educational success begins with stability. When children have a safe, affordable place to call home, they are better positioned to pursue their goals with confidence and purpose.
At People’s Self-Help Housing, we see everyday how housing and education are deeply connected. This month, we are proud to celebrate the opening of our newest Learning Center at Buellton Garden Apartments. As the ninth Learning Center in our network, it will provide free after-school academic support, enrichment activities, career exploration opportunities, and a safe, welcoming environment for local students.
The impact of these programs extends far beyond homework help. Through individualized support and year-round academic programming, students strengthen their literacy and math skills, build confidence, and develop the tools they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom. Last year alone, grade-level proficiency across reading and math nearly tripled among participating students, demonstrating the transformative power of consistent educational support.
At People’s Self-Help Housing, we often talk about building homes and changing lives. This month, we are reminded that changing lives sometimes looks like a student discovering a love of reading, mastering a difficult math concept, or gaining the confidence to dream bigger about their future. We are honored to play a role in helping create these important moments. If you’d like to learn more about our education program or know a student interested in enrolling, please visit pshhc.org/education.
As always, thank you for being part of this work and for helping us build stronger communities across the Central Coast.
