As a boomer who started working toward the end of the Industrial Revolution and then well into the digital age, I find myself fumbling my way into the AI Era that is suddenly at our doorstep. Now it occurs to me that although it behooves young people to get on board with AI for the sake of their futures, Latinos, specifically, should seriously consider the benefits that are possible for them.
For important reasons, Latinos stand to benefit enormously by upgrading their skills. Latinos are historically overrepresented in occupations such as food service, office support, healthcare and construction—fields of work that are highly susceptible to disruption by artificial intelligence.
By dedicating themselves to mastering AI, the wealth gap that often finds Latinos at the lower rungs of employment will begin to narrow. Rather than finding themselves vulnerable to replacement by AI robots and algorithms, Latinos can pivot into training programs that allow them to become highly paid “AI operators” in their work and businesses. In the current era, being able to leverage AI translates into wealth and therefore the power to improve one’s life and those of the generations that follow.
Latinos launch businesses at a faster clip than any other demographic group in the U.S. Many of these businesses are small, understaffed and undercapitalized. AI is perfect for filling in many of the gaps. It can help considerably with such things as digital copywriting, building websites, graphic design, customer service, and financial analysis. Although the upfront costs of initial AI tools are relatively low, time, which is money, is required to learn how to integrate AI software into the workflow.
For example, rather than hiring a traditional marketing agency for a handsome sum, subscribing to an AI writing assistant for a few dollars a month yields an enormous potential boost in the ROI (return on investment) for a business. World-class automation is now within the reach of just about any nascent business.
I am currently developing ideas for my own digital content platform. At this stage of my life, I would be much more hesitant if it were not for the power that AI offers me. I am now able to access low-cost AI tools that can erase huge chunks of the time and effort that would have been required in an earlier era, such as only five years ago.
I would encourage everyone who is interested in surviving this economy (especially Latinos, given their propensity for starting businesses) to search for a path forward that empowers them during this volatile transition toward a world that is becoming, for better or for worse, heavily dependent on artificial intelligence.

Como miembro de la generación de los “boomers” que comenzó a trabajar hacia el final de la Revolución Industrial y continuó hasta bien entrada la era digital, me encuentro tanteando el terreno para entrar en la era de la inteligencia artificial (IA), que de repente tenemos a las puertas. Ahora me doy cuenta de que, si bien a los jóvenes les conviene adoptar la IA en beneficio de su futuro, los latinos, en particular, deberían considerar seriamente las ventajas que esta tecnología puede ofrecerles.
Existen razones importantes por las que los latinos podrían beneficiarse enormemente al actualizar sus competencias. Históricamente, los latinos están sobrerrepresentados en sectores como la restauración, el apoyo administrativo, la atención sanitaria y la construcción—ámbitos altamente vulnerables a las transformaciones provocadas por la inteligencia artificial.
Si se dedican a dominar la IA, la brecha de riqueza que a menudo sitúa a los latinos en los escalafones laborales más bajos empezará a reducirse. En lugar de verse vulnerables ante la posibilidad de ser reemplazados por robots y algoritmos de IA, los latinos pueden orientarse hacia programas de formación que les permitan convertirse en “operadores de IA” bien remunerados en sus trabajos y empresas. En la actualidad, saber aprovechar la IA se traduce en riqueza y, por ende, en la capacidad de mejorar la propia vida y la de las generaciones venideras.

Aunque los costes iniciales de las herramientas de IA son relativamente bajos, se requiere tiempo—y el tiempo es dinero—para aprender a integrar el software de IA en el flujo de trabajo.
Por ejemplo, en lugar de contratar a una agencia de marketing tradicional por una suma considerable, suscribirse a un asistente de redacción basado en IA por unos pocos dólares al mes puede impulsar enormemente el retorno de la inversión (“ROI” en inglés) de un negocio. Hoy en día, la automatización de primer nivel está al alcance de prácticamente cualquier empresa emergente.
Actualmente estoy desarrollando ideas para mi propia plataforma de contenido digital. A estas alturas de mi vida, me lo pensaría mucho más si no fuera por las posibilidades que me ofrece la IA. Ahora tengo acceso a herramientas de IA de bajo coste que permiten eliminar gran parte del tiempo y el esfuerzo que habrían sido necesarios en otra época, como hace apenas cinco años.
