SANTA PAULA — The City of Santa Paula proudly celebrated the graduation of the Future Leaders Academy Cohort II during a special ceremony held yesterday evening at Parque 1055, recognizing a dedicated group of residents, community members, committee and commission members, and local leaders who successfully completed the City’s civic leadership and community engagement program.

Building on the success of the inaugural cohort, the Future Leaders Academy Cohort II brought together 15 participants over the course of an eight-week program designed to educate and engage community members through an in-depth look at City government, operations, services, and local decision-making.

Throughout the academy, participants attended weekly evening sessions where they connected directly with City leadership, staff, and partner agencies to learn more about how local government functions and serves the Santa Paula community. Participants were encouraged to ask questions, engage in discussions, and gain firsthand insight into the responsibilities and operations of several City departments.

Sessions highlighted the roles and responsibilities of key City departments and agencies, including the Finance Department, Community and Economic Development Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Public Works Department and Water Division, Santa Paula Police Department, Ventura County Fire Department, the City Manager’s Office, and more.

The Future Leaders Academy was created to strengthen civic knowledge, promote transparency, and foster meaningful relationships between the City and the community it serves. Through presentations, interactive discussions, and hands-on learning opportunities, participants explored topics ranging from budgeting and infrastructure to public safety, recreation, economic development, and community services.

“The Future Leaders Academy gives residents the opportunity to better understand how the City operates and become more engaged in the community,” said City Manager Dan Singer. “We are proud of Cohort II for their commitment throughout the program.”

“This program has been a great opportunity to bring community members together to learn more about local government and grow as leaders,” said Nicholle Azpera, Administrative Management Fellow in the City Manager’s Office. “The Academy helps empower residents to stay involved and continue making a positive impact in Santa Paula.”

Graduates of the program completed the academy with a greater understanding of municipal government and a stronger connection to the Santa Paula community and the individuals who help keep it running every day.

The City of Santa Paula congratulates the graduating members of Future Leaders Academy Cohort II and thanks all participating departments, staff members, presenters, and partner agencies whose contributions helped make the program a success.
