VENTURA COUNTY — Ahead of every major election cycle, the Ventura County Elections Division hires hundreds of local community members to serve as the temporary elections workers that play a key role in ensuring elections are executed in a safe, secure, and efficient manner. From working at a vote center, verifying signatures, transporting mail ballots, and providing information on the voter assistance hotline, there are many opportunities to get involved with the upcoming June 2, 2026 Gubernatorial Primary Election.
Serving as an elections worker is a unique opportunity for individuals looking to earn extra income, help their community, and participate in the excitement of the election. It is an ideal job for retirees, people who are between jobs or are new to the workforce and want to add to their resume, self-employed workers with flexibility in their schedule, and anyone interested in gaining valuable experience while serving their community.
Elections worker positions start at $22.50 an hour and are available for a variety of skill levels.
“Our elections workers are absolutely vital for conducting each election,” said Michelle Ascencion, County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters. “Every year we have a variety of workers – some who have come back to serve for multiple elections, and some who are new and signing up for the first time – all are ready to learn and enthusiastic about participating in the democratic process. We invite everyone who has an interest in elections to make a difference by helping us administer our local elections with integrity and professionalism.”
All temporary elections workers must pass a pre-employment background check before receiving training at the County Government Center in Ventura. Once training is completed, whenever possible, vote center workers are often assigned to a voting location in their city or community so they’re close to home and able to personally assist their friends and neighbors as they drop off their mail ballots or come in person to vote.
