October News from Peoples’ Self-Help Housing

Newsletter | October 2020
Welcome to our newest residents who have moved into their new, beautiful homes at Sierra Madre Cottages in Santa Maria. We are so glad they have chosen to call PSHH home.
Check out their new neighborhood!
Dear Friend,
There have already been a number of ‘firsts’ for me as the new CEO of Peoples Self-Help Housing, but today this is my first letter to you in our monthly eNews!I am enormously honored to have been selected to serve as the leader of this organization, and to have the opportunity to be able to continue working alongside it’s professional, and mission-driven staff.

While I have many exciting ideas for the organization’s future, don’t expect any immediate major changes from PSHH. There is so much great work already in process in our very full pipeline that I see no reason for us to change our successful course anytime soon.

I am looking forward to this continuing journey together. Thank you for all your past and future support.

Ken

See the Impact!
We invite you to take a look at our 2019-20 Impact Report, a special compilation of the greatest stories and moments from this past year.
A Visionary Gift
We are honored to announce the opening of a new learning center at Rolling Hills Apartments in Templeton. Funded through a visionary gift of over $227,000 from local philanthropic organization must! charities, students at this property will now have access to PSHH’s site-based learning program Camino Scholars. Providing students with after-school support, enrichment opportunities, mentorship, and guidance from kindergarten through college graduation, thank you to must! charities for their tremendous leadership.
Turn a House Into a Home!
Every October, we bring you an opportunity to support the women and girls at our properties. This year a very special program is opening in Santa Barbara. Watch the video here and then make your generous gift. Thank you!
Supporting from Afar
As COVID-19 continues to affect our communities, all of our onsite resident service  teams have continued partnering with local agencies to creatively ensure support during this critical time.

  • Rite Aid pharmacists went door to door at senior properties to ensure safe and easy access to this year’s flu vaccine.
  • In collaboration with Stand Strong, young residents in SLO County are participating in a 12-session domestic violence prevention program.
  • Social workers set up phone appointments with Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) counselors to renew medicare and health insurance during open enrollment.
  • With food continuing to be a critical need among our residents during these times, partnerships with the Food Bank, Salvation Army, Orcutt Union School District, The Organic Soup Kitchen, and the Carpinteria Children Center continue to bring nourishing food to residents in need.
During COVID-19 closures, contact us with inquiries at (805) 781-3088 or info@pshhc.org. For property contact information, visit pshhc.org/looking-for-housing.
