Bilingual report — Ventura County Clerk-Recorder, Registrar of Voters Mark Lunn Announces Important Details Regarding November 3, 2020 General Election

VENTURA — Under Executive Order, the Governor declared the November 3, 2020 General Election an all Vote By Mail election in the state of California. County Clerk-Recorder, Registrar of Voters Lunn stated, “With the current Coronavirus pandemic and the confluence of the flu season upon us, I encourage all voters to utilize the Vote By Mail ballot they receive at home to take advantage of the health and safety measures that voting by mail provides.”

The Ventura County Elections Division will deliver ballots to the United States Post Office on Friday, October 2, three days ahead of schedule. All registered voters will automatically receive a ballot at their mailing address on file.

Ventura County residents are strongly encouraged to:

  • Register to vote if not already registered, or re-register if there is a change in information (registertovote.ca.gov)
  • Confirm voter status and mailing address (voterstatus.sos.ca.gov)
  • Sign up for free ballot tracking (wheresmyballot.sos.ca.gov)

Voters can register to vote online in one of 10 languages through October 19. Beginning October 20, voters must register in person at the Ventura County Elections Division or at an in-person voting location, October 31 through November 3.

Voters have three options to return their Vote By Mail ballot:

  1. Official Ballot Drop Box;
  2. In-person voting location; or
  3. By mail, no postage necessary.

Vote By Mail ballot drop boxes are checked by teams of two Ventura County Elections staff. Locations may change due to unforeseen circumstances. Before visiting a ballot drop off location, check the list at VenturaVote.org.

VOTING IN PERSON

The Ventura County Elections Division located in the Hall of Administration at 800 South Victoria Avenue, Ventura, will be open for early voting beginning Monday, October 5, during regular business hours.

Forty-seven additional in-person voting locations were selected based on voter registration, not population, and meet the state’s requirements of one location per 10,000 voters. The voting locations will be open the following dates and times:

  • Saturday, October 31: 10am to 6pm
  • Sunday, November 1: 10am to 6pm
  • Monday, November 2: 10am to 6pm
  • Tuesday, November 3: 7am to 8pm

In-person voting locations will offer Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant touchscreen devices and voting assistance. Ventura County Elections is following local health orders and workers will be adhering to daily health checks, wearing face coverings, social distancing, and sanitizing equipment after use.

Voters will not be assigned to a specific voting location, they can visit any of the 48 locations and receive their home ballot. Locations may change due to unforeseen circumstances. Before visiting an in-person voting location, check the list at VenturaVote.org.

If voters choose to vote in person at a voting location, they will be asked to surrender their Vote By Mail ballot to receive a new ballot for a faster voting experience. If a ballot is not surrendered, and Elections staff is unable to confirm status of the Vote By Mail ballot on file, voters will be provided a provisional ballot.

Vote by Mail ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before November 3, and received by November 20, to be counted.

TALLYING THE VOTE

When Vote By Mail ballots are received by the County Elections Division, signatures on the return envelope will be compared to signatures on voter registration records to ensure they match. To preserve the secrecy of ballots, ballots will then be separated from the envelope, and then tallied.

All valid Vote By Mail ballots are counted in every election in California, regardless of the outcome or closeness of any race.

ELECTION RESULTS

Election results released shortly after 8 p.m. on November 3, will include Vote By Mail ballots processed to date. Throughout election night, ballots cast in person at the voting locations will be processed upon receipt, and result updates will be released throughout the evening. Vote By Mail ballots returned to in person voting locations and drop boxes on Tuesday, November 3, will be processed at a later date.

VENTURA – – Bajo Mandato Ejecutivo, el Gobernador declaró que la Elección General del 3 de noviembre de 2020 será una elección de Votar Por Correo en el Estado de California.
