CAM BOOK CLUB
The Carnegie Art Museum Book Club meets monthly to discuss books that are related to the current exhibition. This month’s book is ?Swing Time,? by Zadie Smith. The club will meet Thursday, August 17, at 6pm. Fee is $5; free for Carnegie members. Click here for more information.
CHALLENGER FLAG FOOTBALL
Our popular Challenger Flag Football program is now taking registrations! This program is specially designed for physically challenged and special needs participants. Each week, players will learn the fundamentals of the sport while preparing for their end-of-season Super Bowl in November. Sign up here!
CONNECTIONS COMPUTER TUTORING FOR SENIORS
On Tuesday, August 8, 2017, the South Oxnard Senior Center (200 East Bard Road) is hosting Connections: Free Computer and Technology Tutoring at 11:00am. DAY AT THE PARK
Special Populations is hosting an afternoon of group & individual activities, arts & crafts, and board games. This month’s event will take place on Saturday, August 19, from 11am to 2pm. Our local libraries will be hosting several fun family events this month!
Aug 7 at 1pm – Amazing Wooden Toymaker (Main Branch):Master toy maker Mr. Gene West will demonstrate some of his unique creations. Kids of all ages will have an opportunity to try out the ingenious wooden toys and decorate their own. For more information, call (805) 385-7535.
Aug 2 at 3pm – Build a Story with Annie Bananie (South Oxnard Branch): Building a story is easy and fun if you have the right tools. BACK-TO-SCHOOL RESOURCE FAIR
Help students succeed in school and discuss legislative issues that affect the community! On August 12 at 10 am at the Oxnard PAL Gym, there will be representatives from K-12, higher education, apprenticeship programs, health services, after-school recreation programs, referral sources, vocational programs, and trade schools. SENIOR EXCURSION TO HOLLYWOOD
Come walk the Hollywood Walk of Fame and tour the famous Wax Museum and Guinness World Records building! This senior excursion is on Friday, August 25 and will depart from the Wilson Center at 8:00am. Registration is required (deadline is August 4) and the fee is $30. ST JOHN’S WELLNESS CLINIC
The Palm Vista Senior Center (801 South C Street) is hosting a St. John’s Wellness Clinic on August 28, 2017 at 9:00am. Anyone 55 years of age or older can receive free checkups for blood pressure and glucose levels along with flu vaccinations. For more information, call (805) 385-8019.
YOUTH EDUCATION CLASSES AT CARNEGIE

Art Lab – August 3, from 1 to 2:30 pm
For kids age 5 and up, Art Lab classes are designed for kids and their grownups to share the joy of learning and making art together. Classes include storytelling, observation activities, and art making. Class fee is $5.
Building Blocks of Art & Advanced Building Blocks – August 5, 12, 19
These art exploration classes help kids explore the tools artists use to build works of art from line to texture and everything in between!
For kids ages 7-11: 10:30 am to noon
Class fee is $10 per single class or $24 ($19 for members) per 3 class session.
For youth ages 11-17: 2 to 4 pm
Class fee is $12 per single class or $30 ($25 for members) per 3 class session.
Porfirio Gutierrez Weaving Classes – August 8 & 9 from 6 to 8 pm
This FREE class will focus on learning about the Zapotec weaving history, design elements and weaving process.
