Managed Care executive selected to lead Ventura County plan
OXNARD — Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP) on Monday announced the hiring of Michael P. Engelhard as chief executive officer.
A health care executive with more than 20 years of experience, Engelhard has a strong background in financial management, physician relations and managed care, the organization reported in a media release.
“Today’s a great day. We’re thrilled to have an experienced health plan professional lead the next era of growth here at Gold Coast Health Plan,” said Robert Gonzalez, chairman of the Ventura County Medi-Cal Managed Care Commission (VCMMCC). “Mike’s focus on a balanced approach of employee, member and provider involvement will be a tremendous addition to our organization and a good fit for our community. “
Prior to joining GCHP, Engelhard served as the interim chief executive officer of CalOptima, a managed care organization similar to GCHP in Orange County. He directed the daily operations of that organization and reported to the Board of Directors on all functional areas, including health services, operations, finance and accounting, government relations and human resources. He helped establish the strategic direction of the Plan and represented them in working with federal, state and local officials, as well as regulatory agencies. Engelhard was CalOptima’s chief financial officer for four years where he ensured that multiple finance, treasury, accounting, procurement and actuarial processes ran effectively and accurately.
When asked about his appointment Engelhard said, “I’m looking forward to becoming familiar with the community and working with the plan’s leaders, employees and Providers to accelerate the growth, quality and services Gold Coast Health Plan offers to the Membership we serve.”
VCMMCC vice chairman, Roberto Juarez said, “I’m impressed with the success Mike has had and with his passion for partnering with providers and members to advance patient care, quality and services.”
Engelhard replaces Cassie Undlin, who served as interim CEO following the March resignation of Earl Greenia. Mr. Engelhard starts September 1st.
