This week the Santa Paula Art Museum must thank artist Virginia Kamhi of Allied Artists of the Santa Monica Mountains and Seashore for her stunning pastel demonstration. Congratulations to Sue, a gallery talk/demonstration regular, for winning Kamhi’s finished piece! Teen Art Group is growing each week with more teens joining us every Friday evening. And the Ag Art Alliance had their hands full as 212 artworks were submitted for this year’s Art About Agriculture exhibition. We can’t wait to show you what they selected at the show’s premiere on November 9 (artist Kathy Ikerd’s “Welcoming Committee,” pictured above, is one of the 64 pieces that were chosen).
Introducing Kathleen!

She received a Bachelor of Arts from Emerson College in Boston in film and art history. She then continued her education and studied painting, textile design, art education and art therapy at Otis College in Los Angeles. Her love for the ocean, color, and hand-made printmaking inspires her creative work and workshops. Kathleen also believes wholeheartedly in the therapeutic power
Free Family Day at the Santa Paula Art Museum is every first Sunday of the month from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. On Sunday, October 6, we’ll be getting in the Halloween spirit by making creepy clay creatures, mini monsters and mixed media masks! All are welcome and admission is free.
Crafty Creations is a “pay-what-you-can” class for everyone ages 12 and over held on the second Thursday of every month from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. On Thursday, October 10, teaching artist Mariann Romero will show you how to use simple designs and a bright palette to create little landscape rocks to brighten up your personal spaces. Preregistration is required.
Join us at the Museum on Saturday, October 19 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm for Wine and Watercolors, a new, creative, after-hours event catered to adults. Enjoy wine tasting with Santa Paula Cellars and live music by ukulele-playing chanteuse Shay Moulder. Plus, play with watercolor painting techniques and be entered into a raffle to win an original watercolor by professional artist Timothy Kitz. In need of childcare? We’ve got that covered too, free of charge! Tickets are $20.00 per person and can be purchased in advance.
Free Family Day celebrating Dia de los Muertos is Sunday, November 3 from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Stay tuned for more details on the community-wide celebration!
