What hazards concern you most in Ventura County and what should we be doing now to prepare for them?

That’s what Ventura County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan is all about. Simply put, it’s a roadmap for identifying the disasters most likely to impact our communities and taking steps before they happen to reduce damage and protect the people, places and services we rely on. And we need your input!

Take our short survey by September 15th and tell us:

Your feedback will help local agencies across Ventura County prioritize projects and strategies that can reduce risk and strengthen our communities.

The Ventura County Assessor’s Office is warning seniors and all local property owners about false claims regarding programs that allegedly reduce or freeze property taxes.

Fraudulent online claims, social media posts and scam phone calls are encouraging property owners to file a non-existent federal IRS Form 1098-SR. NO SUCH FORM EXISTS AND THESE MESSAGES ARE NOT LEGITIMATE.

If money has been requested or paid, please report the incident to local law enforcement and the California Department of Justice.

September is National Preparedness Month, a reminder that a little preparation now can make a big difference during an emergency.

The California Secretary of State Apostille Pop-Up Shop is returning to Ventura County on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in partnership with the Ventura County Clerk-Recorder’s Office.

What is an Apostille?

An Apostille is a certificate that authenticates a California public official’s signature on a document so it can be recognized in another country. Apostilles may be needed for business, education, legal or personal documents, including birth and marriage certificates, transcripts and powers of attorney.

The Pop-Up Shop brings this state service directly to Ventura County, saving residents a trip to Los Angeles or Sacramento.

Ventura County Library invites the community to visit their nearest branch and sign up for a free library card this September.

A library card unlocks a world of possibilities, from checking out books to borrowing from our Library of Things, accessing parks and museum passes, scanning services, homework help, online resources, and so much more.

As a special thank you, anyone who signs up for a new card in September will receive a small gift in celebration of Library Card Sign-Up Month (while supplies last).

Looking for a temporary job opportunity this fall? The Ventura County Elections Division is hiring 300 Extra Help Vote Center Workers I/II to support the November 3, 2026 Gubernatorial Election.

Vote Center Workers assist voters, process ballots and help support safe, secure and efficient election operations at locations throughout Ventura County.

Position Details:

• Pay: $22.50–$25.50 per hour
• Experience: No prior experience required for Vote Center Worker I
• Locations: Vote Centers throughout Ventura County
• Availability: Applicants must be available October 31 through November 3

County of Ventura administrative offices will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day.

Regular business hours will resume Tuesday, September 8.
