SANTA MARIA — Allan Hancock College’s Ann Foxworthy Gallery will showcase the transformative power of art in After the Cut, a new exhibition featuring works by artists Raphaele Cohen-Bacry and Juan Manuel Perez Salazar, on display through Dec. 2.

The exhibition explores how the simple act of cutting can become a powerful tool for creativity, allowing artists to alter, reconstruct and reimagine familiar materials into something entirely new.

Through a variety of artistic media, Cohen-Bacry and Perez Salazar use cutting both literally and conceptually to bring together fragments of materials, images and ideas. Their works reveal traces of what existed before while inviting viewers to consider how destruction, alteration and reconstruction can lead to new creative possibilities.

Rather than erasing the past, the artists embrace it as part of the creative process, transforming existing elements into new compositions that challenge viewers to look beyond the finished work and consider how it came to be.

An artist talk and reception will be held in the gallery Oct. 22 from 4 to 6:30 p.m., offering visitors an opportunity to learn more about the artists and their creative processes.

After the Cut will be on display at the Ann Foxworthy Gallery on Hancock’s Santa Maria campus, 800 S. College Drive. The exhibition, artist talk and reception are free and open to the public.
