You’re Invited! ?

We have been hard at work behind the scenes and are so excited to present to you our upcoming fall exhibitions and events!

Fall/Winter Exhibitions
at MCASB Satellite Gallery at
The Riviera Beach House

MCASB presents two solo exhibitions: Alexis Childress: Migration, Memory, Movement and Tristan Esmino: sa gawi ng araw as part of the ongoing MCASB Satellite Gallery program at the Riviera Beach House in the heart of Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone neighborhood. Childress is a recent MFA graduate from UCSB, and Esmino is an MFA candidate at USC. Linked by the artists’ use of textiles and themes of landscape and ancestry, the two exhibitions will be installed throughout the gallery, in conversation.

MCASB Main Galleries Open October 4

MCASB presents Falling into the Future: Kinetic Art at the Edge of the World, which has been conceived of as a new contribution to the history of Kinetic Art in presenting contemporary perspectives on technology through artworks made by contemporary artists living in California and around the Pacific Rim, including Korea, Nicaragua, and New Zealand. These artists utilize robotics, AI, video, light (both natural and artificial), and interactivity to speak to global concerns around climate change, traditional ecological knowledge, the impact of technologies on the body, and the poetics of the mundane.

Falling into the Future: Kinetic Art at the Edge of the World features:

  • Three new immersive artworks have been commissioned by Chanel Khoury, Manjari Sharma, and Dr. JoAnn Kuchera-Morin for the AlloSphere, a satellite venue.
  • A series of interventions by David Horvitz, an exhibition within the exhibition, that offers a playful dynamic counterpoint while emphasizing the Pacific Ocean as the protagonist.
  • The Judith Center, an art centered non-profit organization that uses art to talk about gender inequality at large in American culture founded by artist Kathryn Andrews as a partner on public programs.
  • The continuous screening of Jean Cocteau’s Address to the year 2000 from 1963, installed in the glass box in front of the museum and on view twenty-four hours a day.

Lead support for Falling into the Future: Kinetic Art at the Edge of the World at the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbra and The AlloSphere is provided by The David Bermant Foundation. The Resonance Foundation has provided critical funding to commission three new artworks for the AlloSphere by Chanel Khoury, Manjari Sharma, and Dr. Joann Kuchera-Morin. The Fabian Newton Family has underwritten the commissioning of new artwork by Gabriela Ruiz.

In Honor of Spooky Season

Keep the spirit of celebrating going after this year’s Dia De Los Muertos Calenda (coming back, more soon!) by joining us for Artist Ghost Stories and Dinner with Cassandria Blackmore.

Visit the historic Santa Barbara studio of Cassandria Blackmore and experience an intimate, candlelit evening while she shares ghost stories celebrating the remarkable artists who inhabited this legendary space for the past 120 years. Enjoy a special wine pairing while you journey back to discover the fascinating history of the studio, including its connection to Diego Rivera, who painted his iconic 1941 Self-Portrait here. That very painting would later appear on Mexico’s 500-peso banknote, paired with Frida Kahlo on the reverse side.

Includes a Día de los Muertos-inspired shared meal and drinks.

Tickets Available HERE. Tickets are extremely limited!
