THOUSAND OAKS — Senior Concerns will host its annual Family Caregiver Recognition Day on Friday, May 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Los Robles Greens (299 S Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks).
The complimentary event, themed “Nurturing Our Caregiver Community,” will bring together family caregivers from the Conejo Valley for a day of connection, education and recognition. Attendees will hear from local experts, access practical resources and share experiences with others, navigating the challenges of caring for a loved one.
Family caregivers play a critical role in supporting older adults, often balancing complex medical, emotional and financial responsibilities with little formal support. Nationwide, an estimated 18 million individuals provide unpaid care for older adults.
“Family caregivers are the backbone of our long-term care system, yet many feel overwhelmed and unseen,” said Martha Shapiro, director of programs at Senior Concerns. “This event is an opportunity to recognize their dedication while equipping them with tools, resources and community support to sustain their caregiving journey.”
As demand for caregiving support continues to rise, Senior Concerns provides a comprehensive continuum of care for older adults and their families, including Meals On Wheels, an Adult Day Program, a Caregiver Support Center, Senior Advocacy Services and consultations.
Caregiver Recognition Day reflects the organization’s commitment to addressing caregiver burnout, social isolation and the growing complexity of aging-related needs in the community.
“This is more than a moment of appreciation,” Shapiro said. “It’s about ensuring caregivers leave feeling supported, connected and better prepared for what lies ahead.”
Priority registration is offered to Senior Concerns family caregiver clients, with a limited number of spaces remaining available at no cost to family caregivers caring for an older adult in the community.
