Ventura County Coalition announce ‘No Kings Protest’ on March 28, part of nationwide day of action

Bridge Brigade and Sign-Making events also planned in advance of No Kings Rally

VENTURA — On March 28, thousands of Ventura County neighbors will come together along with millions of Americans across the country in a nationwide day of nonviolent protest at the third No Kings National Day of Action. There are more than 3,000 events nationwide

Once again, the local coalition of pro-democracy organizers from Indivisible VenturaJustice For All Ventura County, and 50501 VC are hosting the No Kings Ventura County event March 28, from 10 AM to Noon, at the Ventura County Government Center, on the corner of S. Victoria Ave. and Telegraph Rd. in Ventura.

The local No Kings rally will feature keynote speaker Dr. Gaye Theresa Johnson, Director of the Blum Center on Poverty, Inequality, and Democracy at UCSB. She is a historian of freedom struggles and cultural politics, and a nationally recognized facilitator in healing justice for movement organizations. Dr. Johnson is a resident of Ventura.

More than 25 community organizations will attend No Kings Ventura County with booths offering information on local actions, resources and volunteer opportunities.

A food drive benefitting farmworker families is being coordinated by local non-profit Poder Popular, with attendees encouraged to bring donations from this list of urgently needed items.

The Ventura County chapter of the Resistance Singers will perform at the rally. Organizers will also have high-energy music to help the festival-like atmosphere we foster for No Kings events. This is a family-friendly event and all ages are welcome.

Quotes from local organizers: “Our communities are continuing to push back against the Trump administration’s violent, authoritarian actions. We bring together folks from all walks of life who share a simple message: We’re standing up for democracy and against a wannabe king. Power ultimately rests with the people of America, not a king.”

“We encourage people to join us, especially those who have never attended a protest rally. Our No Kings events are family friendly, celebrations of our power, offering actions and next steps on keeping fascism at bay. Sustained participation in protests like No Kings are a proven way to ensure a continued democracy.”

In advance of the No Kings rally, the local coalition is hosting two events to raise awareness:

  • Bridge Brigade events are scheduled on nine overpasses along the 101 Freeway and State Route 118 on March 21 from 11 AM-1 PM. From Santa Barbara to Simi Valley, volunteers will be on overpasses with pro-democracy messages and signs encouraging drivers to attend No Kings. A list of locations are available here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DV9dFL2kq-Y/
  • A No Kings sign-making party will be held Monday, March 23, from 6-8 PM at Topa Topa Brewing at 4880 Colt St. in Ventura. Sign-making supplies will be provided. The Resistance Singers will also host a sing-along at the event. More info at https://www.mobilize.us/indivisibleventura/event/911912/

No Kings is a nonviolent movement that has already mobilized millions — from over five million participants on June 14, 2025 to over seven million people joining 2,700+ events across all 50 states and the District of Columbia on October 18, 2025 — and is growing as communities unite to reject authoritarian power grabs and defend dignity and freedom.

Locally, the previous No Kings events at the VCGC have drawn crowds from 6,000-8,000 people. Organizers are expecting similar attendance for the third No Kings event.

All No Kings events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety. Organizers are trained in de-escalation, every local event has a safety lead, and organizers are coordinating closely with local partners to ensure powerful, non-violent local actions.
