OJAI — Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County (Habitat Ventura) is preparing for an exciting new chapter in its mission to expand affordable housing opportunities in Ventura County, with a small-scale residential development planned for Ojai and anticipated to break ground in summer 2026. The Montgomery Street Tiny Homes project will deliver five new homes designed to meet the needs of the Ojai community while preserving the character of the neighborhood. The development will include two thoughtfully designed tiny home duplexes and one single-family home, creating a total of five affordable homeownership opportunities for local families.

“We’re proving that affordable homeownership doesn’t require massive developments. These five tiny homes will create real opportunities for Ojai families who work here, contribute here, but have been priced out of living here. That’s exactly the kind of targeted, community-centered approach Ventura County needs right now,” said Darcy Taylor, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County.

The Montgomery Street Tiny Homes project reflects Habitat Ventura’s ongoing efforts to address the region’s housing affordability crisis through innovative design, strong partnerships, and community engagement. Once complete, the homes will provide long-term housing stability for families who are priced out of the traditional housing market.

In keeping with Habitat’s model, prospective homebuyers will partner with the organization by contributing “sweat equity”, helping to build their own home or the homes of others in the program.

This hands-on approach fosters pride of ownership and builds community connections that last well beyond move-in day.

The project was developed in partnership with RRM Design Group and the City of Ojai. Additional details on eligibility and how to apply will be shared as the groundbreaking approaches.

As Habitat Ventura looks ahead to this future build, the organization invites community members to get involved now by supporting its upcoming Women Build 2026 presented by Bank of America on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Women Build encourages women to give back to their community while supporting Habitat Ventura County in creating strength, stability, and self- reliance for local families.
