| Hi Friend,
For too long, bad landlords have used harassment and intimidation to push people out of their homes. Tomorrow, Ventura City Council has a choice.
If the City Council acts, they can put real protections in place so tenants aren’t bullied, threatened, or forced out just for standing their ground. In Oxnard, this policy is already doing what it’s meant to do: protecting tenants who speak up and shutting down landlords who try to terrorize families by threatening to call ICE.
What makes this moment clear is that there is no real excuse for delay: Organizations like CAUSE, Ventura Tenants Union, and others, along with city staff and the broader community, agree this policy is needed. We’ve worked across the aisle with realtors and landlords who agree that bad actors in their industry shouldn’t be allowed to get away with abusive behavior. The question now isn’t whether Ventura should protect people from harassment – it’s whether the City Council will have the courage to do it swiftly.
That’s why we need to pack City Hall tomorrow.
- What: Ventura City Council meeting – support anti-harassment housing protections
- When: Tomorrow, 5:00pm
- Where: Wright Event Center – 57 Day Road, Ventura, CA 93003
Showing up matters. A full room sends a message that tenants are organized and powerful and that we deserve safety, stability, and dignity – our community will not accept intimidation as a housing strategy.
If you plan to attend, please email our local organizer Jose Manuel Rodriguez at jose@causenow.org to let us know you’ll be there.
This is how change happens: neighbors showing up, refusing to be ignored, and demanding better.
See you tomorrow,
Lucas Zucker and Hazel Davalos
