VENTURA — The City of Ventura has opened recruitment for its next Fire Chief, seeking a progressive and collaborative leader to guide one of California’s oldest fire departments.
Ventura’s Fire Department responds to more than 18,000 calls each year from six stations serving a diverse coastal community of over 110,000 residents. Rooted in a legacy dating back to 1875, the department has evolved into a modern, all-hazards agency known for its commitment to preparedness, prevention, and professional service.
“The next Fire Chief will step into a department with an incredible history and a strong foundation of service,” said City Manager Bill Ayub “We’re looking for a leader who is not only technically exceptional, but who values people, embraces innovation, and understands the importance of community partnerships. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of public safety in Ventura.”
The next Fire Chief will play a pivotal role in shaping the department’s future, strengthening service delivery, and supporting a highly skilled team of 92 firefighter-paramedics, 10 fire prevention team members, and three professional staff.
This executive role offers an annual salary of $212,623.64 to $284,918.19, depending on qualifications, along with a robust benefits package that includes comprehensive health coverage, CalPERS retirement, and a wellness program designed to support long-term well-being.
