Selections from the Santa Paula Art Museum’s Collection Celebrate Mexican and Mexican-American Contributions
OXNARD — The Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) is proud to announce the opening of Anonymous Heroes / Héroes Anónimos, a special exhibition presented in partnership with the Santa Paula Art Museum and the Consulate of Mexico in Oxnard and curated by Rafael Perea de la Cabada. The exhibition will be on view at the Mexican Consulate, at 3151 W. 5th Street in Oxnard, from September 12 thru January 16, 2026.
Anonymous Heroes / Héroes Anónimos highlights 29 selections from the Santa Paula Art Museum’s permanent collection, paying tribute to the resilience, creativity, and essential contributions of our farmworkers. These “everyday heroes,” often unrecognized in history books, have shaped the cultural and economic fabric of Ventura County and beyond.
“Each image and artwork in this exhibition reminds us that behind every cultivated field and harvest lies a story of sacrifice, perseverance, and love for family,” reflects Ricardo Santana Velázquez, Consul of Mexico in Oxnard. “These are the stories of women and men who, even amid the challenges of the migratory context, continue to sow the future with their hands and unwavering spirit.”
“The exhibition Héroes Anónimos is a beautiful example of the power of partnership,” said Jennifer Heighton, Executive Director of the Santa Paula Art Museum. “By sharing works from our collection at the Mexican Consulate, we are not only honoring the stories and traditions represented in the art, but also creating a meaningful connection between our institutions and the communities we serve.”
The exhibition holds particular resonance in Oxnard, a city deeply rooted in farmworking and immigrant traditions. By presenting these works in the heart of the community, the exhibition invites reflection, recognition, and celebration of those whose labor and spirit sustain Ventura County.

OXNARD – – La Corporación del Centro de Artes Escénicas de Oxnard (OPAC) se enorgullece en anunciar la apertura de Anonymous Heroes / Héroes Anónimos, una exposición especial presentada en colaboración con el Santa Paula Art Museum y el Consulado de México en Oxnard, y curada por Rafael Perea de la Cabada. La muestra estará abierta al público en el Consulado de México, ubicado en 3151 W. 5th Street en Oxnard, del 12 de septiembre de 2025 al 16 de enero de 2026.
Anonymous Heroes / Héroes Anónimos presenta 29 obras seleccionadas de la colección permanente del Santa Paula Art Museum, rindiendo homenaje a la resiliencia, creatividad y las contribuciones esenciales de nuestros trabajadores agrícolas. Estos “héroes cotidianos”, a menudo no reconocidos en los libros de historia, han dado forma al tejido cultural y económico del Condado de Ventura y más allá.
“Cada imagen y obra en esta exposición nos recuerda que detrás de cada campo cultivado y cada cosecha hay una historia de sacrificio, perseverancia y amor por la familia”, reflexionó Ricardo Santana Velázquez, Cónsul de México en Oxnard. “Son las historias de mujeres y hombres que, aun en medio de los retos del contexto migratorio, siguen sembrando el futuro con sus manos y con un espíritu inquebrantable.”

La exposición tiene un significado especial en Oxnard, una ciudad profundamente enraizada en las tradiciones agrícolas e inmigrantes. Al presentar estas obras en el corazón de la comunidad, la exposición invita a la reflexión, el reconocimiento y la celebración de quienes con su trabajo y espíritu sostienen al Condado de Ventura.
