This month’s newsletter highlights important program changes, upcoming events, and valuable resources available to individuals and families throughout the communities we serve. Journey to Homeownership

“What’s so wonderful about having a home that’s mine is that I have a place for my kids when they come home…Also, when I rented I could only have one dog and now I want three dogs and I’m going to have that. I’ll be here forever and I know that it’s my permanent address…”

After her divorce, Debbie faced the daunting challenge of moving back to California and buying a home. For nearly five years, she explored her options, but the state’s high cost of living eventually became overwhelming, and she put her dream on hold.

Program Updates Are Here!

There’s great news for homebuyers, HUD income limits have increased, the WISH Program is back, and several local assistance programs have expanded! The Hope to Home – Oxnard Program now offers more support and Hope to Home -Bakersfield has raised its maximum purchase price. Plus, there are opportunities for moderate-income buyers through CalHFA and the Building Dreams Shared Equity Program.

Reverse Mortgage Counseling

If you’re 62 or older, a reverse mortgage may offer access to your home’s equity without selling. VCCDC’s HUD-approved Homeownership Specialists can help you explore your options and determine if this is the right mortgage product for you. You’ll receive a certificate required to obtain a reverse mortgage, and right now, the $175 counseling fee is waived (limited time only). Sessions are available by phone, virtual, or in-person.
