A group of more than 500 enthusiastic and dedicated supporters crowded into the Casa Lopez Restaurant in downtown Oxnard to celebrate and raise funds to re-elect John Zaragoza to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, the Zaragoza campaign announced in a media release on Saturday.
The large crowd included people of all walks of life, including small business owners, firefighters, business executives, construction workers, sheriff’s deputies and educators, enjoying a breakfast of pancakes, waffles, menudo, bacon, eggs and other Casa Lopez specialties, the campaign reported.
“To make good things happen, we need leaders in our community who can bring people together,” small business owner Robert Perez stated in the release. “John Zaragoza has shown, over and over, that he is a leader who can bring people together. That is why I am supporting John Zaragoza for re-election to the County Board of Supervisors.”
Oxnard resident Elizabeth Deharo also attended the event.
“I have known John Zaragoza for many years; first as our city council representative, and now as our county supervisor,” Deharo said. “John has repeatedly shown his support for youth, families and seniors. We appreciate his understanding and compassion. Again and again, he has stepped forward to support our community.”
The strong support of law enforcement and public safety was evident throughout the morning, as sheriff’s deputies, police officers and firefighters dropped by to get something to eat, and to provide encouragement and support for Supervisor Zaragoza, the campaign reported.
“Supervisor Zaragoza has our endorsement because of his unwavering support for public safety,” Jeff Donabedian, president of the Oxnard Firefighters Association, stated in the release. “Supervisor Zaragoza understands the sacrifices public safety employees make to keep our community safe. We know he won’t let us down.”
“Supervisor Zaragoza understands and appreciates the challenges and risks our police officers face, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” Oxnard Police Sergeant Eduardo Miranda stated. “He has always been there to support us. That is why the Oxnard Peace Officers Association has voted enthusiastically to support his reelection.”
Supervisor Zaragoza said that he was very pleased with the large turn-out and appreciated the support that he has received from local residents, public safety organizations and business and community leaders.
“I am a very fortunate man,” he said. “I have been given the opportunity to serve this wonderful community for almost 50 years. I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve you as County Supervisor.”
