Humane Society of Ventura County Celebrates Countywide Expansion of Services at its 92nd Annual Birthday Bash on June 1

Ventura County Sheriff James Fryhoff and Happy Days Actor Anson Williams to MC

VENTURA  — The Humane Society of Ventura County (HSVC) celebrates its 92nd birthday on June 1 at its Ojai animal shelter and adoption center. Ventura County Sheriff James “Jim” Fryhoff will be Co-Master of Ceremonies with actor and former Ojai mayoral candidate Anson Williams.

“We’re pleased to be welcoming the leaders of Ventura County to our Ojai campus. We’re in the planning phase of a campaign to improve our facilities and expand our work throughout the county. As the leading nonprofit domestic animal resource and pet adoption agency in the region, the expansion will allow us to make an even greater impact.” says Eric Knight, Executive Director of HSVC. Mr. Knight joined HSVC in 2022.

HSVC has placed thousands of animals in “furever” homes in Ventura County, performs thousands of spay/neuter surgeries annually, and responds to hundreds of animal abuse and neglect cases throughout the county every year.

About Sheriff Fryhoff

Sheriff James “Jim” Fryhoff grew up in Pasadena. He was a police cadet with the Pasadena Police Department prior to moving to Ventura County in 1990. Before winning his election to Ventura County he was Assistant Chief in Thousand Oaks, Chief of Police of Ojai and area Captain for the Ojai Valley, and Thousand Oaks Chief of Police. Jim and his wife Traci have two daughters, Vanessa and Savannah. Jim received his bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University in Vocational Education, a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in Administrative Leadership. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2015. Jim is a two-time Deputy of the Year recipient and received the Medal of Valor in 1997.

Anson Williams is an actor and director, best known for his role as “Potsie” Weber on the television series Happy Days, a role for which he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film. Founded in 1932, the Humane Society of Ventura County (HSVC) provides a safe refuge for the homeless, neglected, and abused animals of Ventura County. HSVC provides low-cost spay and neuter services to pet owners in need, temporary housing for animals, medical treatment, proper nutrition, exercise, and rehabilitation.

With a small staff and many dedicated volunteers HSVC is the only agency in Ventura County with Humane Officers who investigate cases of animal abuse, cruelty, and neglect.

As a private nonprofit, all HSVC services are funded entirely by the generosity of the Ventura County community. HSVC is not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States or ASPCA. HSVC does not receive funding from the city, state, or federal government.

Eric Knight was appointed HSVC’s in May of 2022. Eric is an experienced leader and nonprofit professional, raising over $10 million for regional and national nonprofits. Prior to his work in nonprofits Eric was a producer in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. A lifelong pet owner, Eric resides in Oxnard with his wife and son.
