Santa Barbara County First District Supervisor Das Williams — Special Meeting on Jail Healthcare on April 3

Jail Healthcare Study Session

Jail Healthcare Special Meeting

Wednesday, April 3, 2024 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

6100 Wallace Becknell Road Santa Barbara, CA 93117

Our community’s collective heart breaks every time we hear of yet another death of an inmate in custody. Moreover, delays in medical care have caused costly delays in booking inmates, taxing our law enforcement resources. The Board of Supervisors has recently voted to establish the Jail Health Monitoring Unit under the Public Health Department to ensure County health experts are a part of the medical policy-making and quality assurance.

We have a moral imperative to keep our attention on this issue closely. The Board of Supervisors will hold a Special Meeting to study the condition of healthcare within the County Jail next Wednesday.

This meeting will include presentations by County departments and community groups and will focus on:

  • Medical and behavioral healthcare services for persons incarcerated in County adult custodial facilities
  • Crisis Intervention Training for custody staff
  • Data sharing

Central Coast Community Energy Annual Report
As the Chair of Central Coast Community Energy (3CE), our local electricity provider, I want to update you on some important progress we made over this last year. 3CE is leading by example to make the grid cleaner and more reliable for all Californians. Our procurement strategy is based on the idea of additionality: real progress toward 100% clean and renewable energy means adding new resources to the grid. One of my priorities as Board Chair is to invest in more projects that are local and fully satisfy our labor and environmental justice criteria. Cost savings for our customers is also top of mind, and measures like our pre-payment bonds will keep rates responsible and competitive. At an individual level, helping customers electrify their vehicles, homes, and businesses with rebates and technical assistance rounds out our commitment to serve our local communities and drive progress toward our renewable energy goals.

Waterwise garden contest
Did you know that more than 50% of water usage in an average Santa Barbara County home goes toward outdoor irrigation? That’s why water-efficient gardens are both practical and beautiful. They save water and reduce water bills while providing lush greenery that’s easy to maintain. With native plants, landscapes can become a thriving verdant habitat for local wildlife in one’s yard by fostering healthier soils and plants that support biodiversity and natural pollinators.

The Santa Barbara County Water Agency and local water providers are excited to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 WaterWise Garden Recognition Contest. This annual contest aims to recognize residents of Santa Barbara County with beautiful and water-efficient landscapes.

Don’t miss your chance to join this exciting competition by visiting WaterWiseSB.org/GardenContest to view contest rules and submit your application online. All applications should be received by April 30th, 2024.
