January News from People’s Self-Help Housing

eNewsletter | January 2023

Thanks to a generous donation by the Friends of Atascadero Library, hundreds of new books will soon be available for students at our onsite Learning Centers.
Dear Friend,At PSHH, we are not afraid to ask questions.

Now in our third year of DEI training, we have more than just poked at the edges; we have gone deep into the DNA of our fifty two year old organization. Marked with further and significant investments of funds and time, the next twelve months will see our staff-led initiatives continue to explore where we are, where we are going, and humbly, where we want to be.

Our continued progress is thanks to the authentic participation of our 200+ team members who have vulnerably shared their feelings and with conviction embraced new opportunities.

This week, we commemorated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He asked the question “When will you be satisfied?”

We’re nowhere near satisfied yet, but we are moving in the right direction. If you’re interested in joining us on the next leg of this exciting journey, check out the application for our newly created position of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Advisor. We’d love to have you as our traveling companion!

Summer Holly Lane: Build Your Own Home!
Located in Nipomo, Summer Holly Lane will have owner-builders constructing a neighborhood of 10 two-story homes located at the intersection of West Branch and North Thompson.

Our Home Ownership program assists households in the construction of new homes. Groups working together under PSHH supervision are taught the construction skills necessary. Each household contributes approximately 40+ hours per week of ‘sweat-equity’, over a 12-13 month period.
