October promises to be scary fun at the Santa Paula Art Museum! First up: Free Family Day on Sunday, October 2. Longtime Santa Paula art teacher and crafting queen Mariann Romero will be leading the activities inside SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center. Create fun, fall-themed crafts, including pinecone wall hangings and scarecrow bookmarks. Admission is free, all are welcome, and all materials are provided.

Linocut Printmaking Workshop: Make Your Own Stationery (Ages 16+)

Saturday, October 8, 2022, from 10 AM to 2 PM

$85 per person

If you like carving pumpkins, you’ll love carving linocuts. Master the printmaking technique of linoleum block printing during this one-day workshop inside SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center. You’ll learn how to carve your own design into a linoleum block, and then how to make a print to create your own stationery. All skill levels are welcome and all materials are provided. Preregistration is required.

MEET THE ARTISTS

Artist-led Tour with Hiroko Yoshimoto and W. Scott Miles

Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 1 PM and 2 PM

Included with regular museum admission

There are only six weeks left to see artist Hiroko Yoshimoto’s inspiring current exhibition featuring Blue Marble Art Collective, and the best way to experience it is with the artists as your guides! On Saturday, October 8, Yoshimoto and W. Scott Miles will lead 45-minute tours of their shared exhibit at 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Reservations are not required.

Finding Flow + Sound Bath (Ages 16+)

Sunday, October 9, 2022, from 11 AM to 1 PM

$40 per person

Trick-or-treat yourself to back-to-back meditation events with “Finding Flow” led by Yoga teacher and certified arts therapist Robin Briceño, followed by a luxurious sound bath featuring musician Karina Arcia. Explore techniques in movement, art, and music that will help activate your brain’s feel-good “flow” state. No experience is necessary. Students are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat. Art supplies are provided. Preregistration is required.

Painting Pet Portraits (Ages 16+)

Four-part course begins Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 11 AM to 2 PM

$140 per person for all four sessions

Be honest: is there anyone cuter or more deserving of a painted portrait than your pet? We didn’t think so. Join teaching artist Jem Morris inside SPAM’s Cole Creativity Center to learn the ins and outs of painting pet portraits, including preliminary drawing, color theory, and painting techniques. You’ll finish the four-part course with an adorable portrait to share with your furry best friend. All skill levels are welcome and all materials are provided. Preregistration is required.

Spooky Live Figure Drawing (Ages 16+)

Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 6 PM to 8 PM

Before you head out for Halloween, head inside the Cole Creativity Center for a spooky (and clothed) edition of our popular Live Figure Drawing classes! Teaching artist Jem Morris will start the class off with a short introduction, followed by lots of free sketching time with a costumed model. All skill levels are welcome and basic materials are provided. Preregistration is required.

Free Family Day: Día de los Muertos

Sunday, October 30, 2022, from 12 PM to 3 PM

Free for all ages

Celebrate Día de los Muertos across three different locations in downtown Santa Paula on Sunday, October 30. Visit the Santa Paula Art Museum, the Museum of Ventura County’s Agriculture Museum, and Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery to enjoy traditional arts and crafts activities, ofrendainstallations, music and dance performances, face painting, photo ops, and more.
