| John Krist will discuss his unique perspective on our region’s history as an award-winning photojournalist, former CEO of the Ventura Farm Bureau, and author of “Living Legacy: The Story of Ventura County Agriculture.” His book is a local history, a photo essay, and a vital lesson in modern farming. | We are thrilled to partner with the Santa Paula Art Museum and Pierce Brothers Cemetery to present a community-wide celebration! As one of three celebratory sites located in the Santa Paula, the Agriculture Museum will host cultural dance performances, display ofrendas created by the community, provide fun craft activities, and face-painting. Mayor Bill Soo Hoo:
Integrity
Bill’s journey into politics began when he experienced institutionalized racism. Returning from serving in World War II, Bill wanted to build a house in Oxnard. Bill purchased a lot, but due to a “Caucasians only” clause, was not permitted to live in it.
He told the land owner “What you’re telling me is I’m good enough to go out and fight for my country, and possibly die for my country, but not good enough to live in it.”

This episode was the catalyst for Bill’s drive to make changes in Oxnard.
His election as Oxnard’s mayor made big news and he was catapulted into worldwide fame. Bill attributed much of his success to his mother, the fine reputation she established in this community, and her philosophy that to be of service to anyone you must be strong in mind. Bill embodied this conviction. He loved the City of Oxnard and he worked hard to make significant contributions. Click here to learn more about him. |

Renowned local artist Carol Rosenak (1925-2002) was known for her still life paintings featuring exquisite textures and intricate details. Spanning over 30 years of her career, this exhibit highlights her early printmaking, still lifes, and the abstract style she adopted later in life.
