TOArts’ AccessArts Program announces $50,000 available in grants to support arts education in Ventura County and beyond

Grants in the amount of $500-$10,000 are available

THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks Arts’ (TOArts) AccessArts Grant Program is now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 school year.

The AccessArts Grant Program intends to spur investments in providing high-quality arts education to elementary students of Ventura County and the cities of Westlake Village, Oak Park and Agoura Hills in Los Angeles County.

Priority funding will be awarded to classroom arts projects that will be implemented within the current school year, teacher innovation opportunities, and projects that support arts education infrastructure, such as equipment purchases, facility renovations or upgrades, and curriculum development.

Projects or purchases that integrate the arts into other core general education subjects, address equity and access issues, are sustainable or project sequential learning for students, support professional development for teachers, or have other income sources identified or secured will be given preferential review.

Research conducted by The Americans for the Arts shows that arts education has a significant

impact on the lives of school-aged youth. Low-income youth who were exposed to the arts in elementary and middle school are 50% more likely to graduate from high school and apply to and finish college, and early exposure to the arts has been shown to improve math and science scores, improve attendance and empower youth to be more engaged in the community.

“Arts education plays an important role in student achievement and community success,” said Niki Chopra Richardson, Associate Director at TOArts. “It is our vision at TOArts to support the reintegration of arts education in elementary school curriculum for every school in every district of Ventura County and beyond.

Credentialed classroom teachers, principals or district representatives are encouraged to apply.
