Nov. 1 — Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corp. (OPAC) to present Día de la Muertos, Covid-19 edition

OXNARD — The Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) is proud to announce the first-ever Día de Los Muertos Celebration – drive-in style! The public is welcome to roll up to the Oxnard Performing Arts & Convention Center on Sunday, Nov. 1 from 5 to 9 pm for this free evening of art, entertainment, and community remembering those we have loved and lost.

COVID-19 has altered our everyday lives – how we work, play, relax, and celebrate. “Cancel Culture” is all too real and hits too close to home. Destinations for arts and culture have shuttered, from movie theaters to museums. Our beloved Oxnard events have all been put on hold: the Salsa, Strawberry and Tamale Festivals, and Heritage Square’s Summer Concert Series, to name a few. But artists and cultural organizations are resilient. They find a way to make and share art, to innovate and educate, and to bring our community together during the most challenging of times.

This outdoor, socially-distanced, family-friendly parking lot event brings together Oxnard’s artists, dancers, and creatives to keep our Dia de Los Muertos tradition vibrant during this pandemic. Enjoy a wide range of Mexican dances performed by Club Flor Bonita, Grupo Folklorico Fusion Mexicana, and Ballet Folklorico Mestizo, live music, altars on display, artisan vendors, regional cuisine, and a no-touch photo booth featuring stars from the movie Coco…all to be followed by a screening of the blockbuster hit Coco!

Audience members are encouraged to bring chairs so they can sit outside their vehicles. Every car will receive a swag bag of art activities. Businesses, nonprofits, families, and individuals are welcome to host an altar and can reserve a space for their altar on OPAC’s website: oxnardperformingarts.com.

This event is first-come, first-serve and is graciously sponsored by OPAC, Diversity Collective, Party Starz and the Ventura County Arts Council.

Celebrate Día de los Muertos with OPAC!
