In celebration of Días de los Muertos, the Museum of Ventura County invites you and your family to pick-up a Grab ‘n Go Day of the Dead Craft Bag at the Ventura Museum (100 E. Main St., Ventura) on Saturday, October 17, 2020 @ 10AM (while supplies last) and at the Agriculture Museum in Santa Paula (926 Railroad Ave.) on Sunday, October 18, 2020 @ 12PM (while supplies last).
The MVC and AG Grab ‘n Go Day of the Dead Craft Bags include:
• Día de los Muertos mask-making kit
• Instructions on how to build your own at home altar (English and Spanish)
• Materials and instructions on creating Papel Picado
• Materials and instruction on creating tissue paper marigolds
• Recipe for baking Pan de Muerto
Drive-ups only, please. You will be met curbside by our friendly staff members. Gloves, masks and social distancing practices will be in place.

Día de los Muertos Community Altar
at the Museum of Ventura County

In celebration of Día de los Muertos, the Museum of Ventura County invites our community members to contribute mementos, photos, drawings, poetry, or other items to be included in a Community Altar that will be erected on the MVC Plaza. You may drop off your non-perishable items and other contributions at the Museum of Ventura County (100 E. Main St., Ventura) between Monday, October 26—Thursday, October 29, 2020 from 12PM—3PM. Please note that these items are non-returnable, so it is recommended that you make copies and keep your originals. These items cannot be returned under any circumstance. We apologize for any inconvenience.
The public will be able to access the Museum of Ventura County’s Plaza between Saturday, October 31—Tuesday, November 3, 2020 from 10AM—5PM to view the Día de los Muertos Community Altar. Social distancing practices will be in place.

Museum of Ventura County Receives
|
|
|
|
The Museum of Ventura County has received a Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections Planning Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The grant will allow the museum to create a collections risk assessment, a fire suppression assessment report, and a disaster response plan for the entire organization. The Museum of Ventura County serves county residents, researchers, scholars, and the public, caring for a vast collection of 180,000 historical artifacts, art works, official documents, and agricultural machinery and implements.

The Museum of Ventura County’s Martin V. and Martha K. Smith Pavilion will serve as an early voting site for the 2020 election. For more information, please visit the official County of Ventura Elections site. Dates and times are as follows:

Mr. Davis is back — this time discussing “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” the 1970 classic that was awarded four (4) Oscars, including Best Adapted Screenplay by William Goldman, Best Original Music by Burt Bacharach, and Best Cinematography by Conrad L. Hall.
Ivor was on-location with movie legends Paul Newman and Robert Redford while filming this box office smash.

The Museum of Ventura County and the Ventura Botanical Garden is thrilled to host 14 regional artists in our first-ever collaborative exhibit, Arte Forastero. Sculptures and installation works have been installed in the Botanical Gardens nursery and lower trails and in the Museum’s outdoor Plaza along Main Street in Downtown Ventura.
Members of the Museum of Ventura County and Members of the Ventura Botanical Gardens receive free entry at both locations for the duration of the exhibit! Members of the Ventura Botanical Gardens will receive free admission to both the Ventura Museum (100 E. Main St.) and the Santa Paula Agriculture Museum (926 Railroad Ave., Santa Paula) once the Museums can safely reopen.

Who has, and who doesn’t have, the power to make decisions in our democracy? A radical expansion of the democratic spirit, The Official Unofficial Voting Station offers symbolic voting power to all people. It is meant to start conversations about disenfranchisement, civics, and belonging in American life. Experience the act of voting as it could be: broad, inclusive, and cause for celebration. The Official Unofficial Voting Station is an idealized online polling place created by artist-activist Aram Han Sifuentes.

A wide-open extension of democracy, the playfully designed voting station welcomes everyone to cast a symbolic ballot—regardless of the legal barriers that prevent approximately ninety-two million people in the United States from participating in elections. Make your voice heard online and join an aspirational voting movement from home, with custom “I Voted” stickers and more, all designed by the artist and sent to Skirball participants upon request. Keep an eye on the online tally as Sifuentes counts your ballots through the election season!
