Commentary — Registering to vote (Oct. 19) deadline looming

By Frank X. Moraga • Amigos805.com

Thank you to all those in the 805 region who have completed their U.S. Census surveys.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled this week that the census count officially ended on Oct. 15.

All counties in the 805 region exceeded the 2010 Census self-reporting effort. Bilingual report — All cities across Ventura County surpass 2010 Census self-response rate

As of Oct. 15, 2020:

  • Ventura County has a 76.7 percent self-response rate, up from 72.5 percent in 2010
  • Santa Barbara County has a 71.8 percent self-response rate, up from 68.5 percent in 2010
  • San Luis Obispo County has a 68.5 percent self-response rate, up from 66.3 percent in 2010
  • California has a 69.6 percent self-response rate, up from 61.3 percent in 2010
  • Overall, the United States has a National self-response rate of 66.9 percent, up from 66.3 percent rate in 2010

The higher response rate will help the 805 region receive more federal funding for education, roads, health care, public safety and other projects and increase the number of representatives we have in Congress.

Congratulations.
