CAMARILLOKidSTREAM founder and president Kristie Akl presented at InterActivity 2019, the Association of Children’s Museums’ annual meeting that was held recently in Denver, Colorado. With nearly 1,000 attendees, the Association of Children’s Museums’ annual conference is the world’s largest convening of children’s museum professionals and an opportunity to share and learn best practices in the field. Akl was invited to present on behalf of kidSTREAM, Ventura County’s emerging interactive children’s museum, because kidSTREAM’s journey to become a world class community resource has been one in which best practices have been followed along the way.

“We are so honored to participate at this esteemed international gathering of children’s museum professionals,” said Akl. “I attended my first Interactivity conference four years ago, before kidSTREAM was even incorporated, and to be invited to present is a wonderful compliment from the Association, and encouraging to us that we are laying a solid foundation for the future of kidSTREAM.”

KidSTREAM has terms to purchase the former Camarillo library site from the City of Camarillo and is targeting the opening for 2021. Plans call for approximately 30,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor interactive hands-on exhibits, activities and learning experiences for children and families that focus on science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and math (STREAM). KidSTREAM will be a place where children learn through play, exploration and discovery. During the planning of the build-out, kidSTREAM continues to provide mission-focused educational outreach at community events and has served over 25,000 children and families throughout Ventura County.
